I've worked out some details here - master...alexanderankin:json-patch:upgrade_gradle
i think the biggest downside might be that you can no longer compile with java 8 (11+ is a better baseline anyway these days), and i suspect that configuring the keys for gpg signing changed a bit over 2 major gradle versions (there is a whole separate section in the docs)
