[suggestion] Waive CC attribution clause on FOSDEM logo when used inside FOSDEM presentations #331

Description

@joostdecock

There's been several speakers in the speakers chat room who've raised questions about using the FOSDEM logo in the slides/presentation they are preparing for speaking at FOSDEM.

These questions are typically one of:

  • is it allowed?
  • if so, what should I do to make sure I'm doing it right?

People have suggested sending emails to request permission, but I suspect many of us have gotten a bit behind schedule, so perhaps we can make this simpler.

It is my understanding that the logo is CC-BY, so I suggested that it might be a good idea to put out a blanket statement (even if it's only towards speakers) along the lines of:

As a FOSDEM speaker, it is allowed to put the FOSDEM logo in the slides/presentation of your FOSDEM talk. Furthermore, for this specific use-case, we hereby waive the attribution clause.

Exact wording is of course up to you, I merely wanted to suggest it as a principle.

Pascal Bleser suggested I'd create an issue for this, and who am I to argue with such an excellent suggestion, so I went ahead and did just that.

Thanks for all the great work 🙏
